CINCINNATI — Former Bearcats' men's basketball coach John Brannen has a new job in the college ranks. According to a press release, Brannen is joining Dayton's staff as a program analyst and senior special assistant.

His role includes aiding "efforts in analytics, scouting, self-scouting, and video analysis" for the Flyers.

"John brings an extensive amount of experience and success as a former head coach and leader into this new role," Head coach Anthony Grant said. "Having coached John during his collegiate playing days, and working with him for nine years on previous coaching staffs, I'm excited about the opportunity to partner with him again. I believe his passion, knowledge, and skill set will be great assets to our players, staff, and program. We're excited to welcome John and his family to the Flyer Family."

The two crossed paths when Brannen transferred from Morehead State to Marshall in 1999 when Grant was on the Thundering Herd staff. He also coached on Grant's staffs at VCU and Alabama starting in 2006.

Recently, Brannen went through a turbulent pair of seasons at UC that ended with nearly the entire roster entering the transfer portal over differences in the program. Brannen was the Northern Kentucky head coach for four seasons before taking over at UC in 2019.
