Report: Bob Huggins Resigns as West Virginia Head Coach
CINCINNATI — Former Cincinnati men's basketball head coach Bob Huggins was arrested for a DUI on Friday night and intends to resign from the same position at West Virginia.
Multiple reports confirmed the coach's resignation. He released a statement akin with the news.
The City of Pittsburgh released a police report on Saturday naming "Robert Huggins" in a DUI arrest on June 16.
"Robert Huggins, 69, of Morgantown, West Virginia was charged with Driving Under the Influence. He was released from custody and will appear for a preliminary hearing at a later date.”
Huggins was suspended from his job at UC in 2004 for the same charge after a video surfaced of him stumbling through a field sobriety test. The school did not retain him after the 2004-05 season.
According to Village of Fairfax officers, Huggins offered slurred speech and had visible vomit on the driver's door when authorities stopped him on Wooster Pike at 11:35 p.m. on June 8, 2004.
"I made a very poor decision that's reflected negatively on the basketball program and the university," Huggins said with his wife and two daughters at his side. "For that, I deeply regret it. I take responsibility for my actions. I'm going to do my part to make sure that something like this will never happen again."
Huggins was just inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame last year and recently had to take on harsh penalties from WVU due to homophobic comments he made while on 700 WLW airwaves in Cincinnati.
