CINCINNATI — Bearcats quarterback Emory Jones met with the media on Tuesday as Cincinnati's offense tries to climb out of the bottom 10 nationally in red zone touchdown rate.

Jones is confident the offense is close to putting it all together.

"I think our best is yet to come," Jones told the media. "I think we had a couple games to figure out exactly what we need to improve on and different ways to improve on it. Just looking back at some of the games, a lot of it is a lot of the small details that gotta get cleaned up."

Jones played like a top-30 quarterback to start the season but has settled in the 50s across PFF grading (57th) and ESPN's QBR metric (53rd).

Cashing in on some more of those red zone chances could boost both, along with improved production over the middle of the field.

"That's someone who learned a lot throughout spring and fall camp," Jones said about tight end Chamon Metayer following his two-touchdown outing against BYU. "He kind of got down on himself a little bit and I think that when he started listening more and doing the right thing, what he's actually supposed to do I feel like he understood how that helps him and even how it helps the team. I think he's getting it now, that's why he's performing the way he is."

According to PFF, three of Metayer's four highest-graded games of his career have all come in the past three weeks. Continuing that trend might be just enough to unlock more touchdowns from UC's offense.
