Report: Cincinnati Hiring Iowa State Linebackers Coach Tyson Veidt as New Defensive Coordinator
CINCINNATI — Scott Satterfield and the Bearcats football team have reportedly landed on Iowa State associate head coach and linebackers coach Tyson Veidt as the new defensive coordinator.
He replaces Bryan Brown after helping Iowa State field some elite defenses over the past few seasons. 247Sports's Matt Zenitz reported the news.
ISU had one of the top defenses in the Big 12 last season, ranking first in yards per play allowed (5.2 YPP). Before that Iowa State ranked second (20.9- 2017), first (22.9- 2018), third (25.9- 2019), second (21.4- 2020), third (20.5, 2021), and first (20.2, 2022) in the Big 12's scoring defense tally, all totals among the top-50 nationally.
Veidt's been with ISU head coach Matt Campbell since his Toledo days and is another instance of Satterfield looking to that staff for coaches. The veteran coach has been a mainstay in Ames, Iowa since 2016.
He'll try to boost a Cincinnati defense that hemorrhaged big plays and was horrific in 2023. UC's personnel should fit pretty well into the 3-3-5 scheme Iowa State has employed, should Veidt choose that.
