Report: Louisville RBs Coach De'Rail Sims Taking Same Role At UC
CINCINNATI — Cincinnati head football coach Scott Satterfield is bringing another offensive coach over from Louisville. On3's Matt Zenitz reports that Cardinals' running backs coach De'Rail Sims is joining UC in the same role.
Sims is a newer addition to the Louisville staff, having joined in 2021. He was the primary recruiter for 2023's No.2 running back Rueben Owens. The five-star recruit was willing to stick with Louisville until Sims informed him he wouldn't be staying on staff.
Owens then de-committed on Wednesday and committed to Texas A&M (the only other Adidas school in his new top-three). Sims was the last thing keeping him tied to Louisville, a testament to their relationship on the recruiting trail. On the field, Sims has helped power a strong Cardinals ground game.
Louisville running backs tallied 1,742 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2021, followed by 1,694 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. The Cardinals had the second-most productive rushing attack in the ACC last season.
Satterfield is carrying over a strong staff from Louisville. Sims is now the fifth Louisville assistant to make the short trip to Clifton, joining former quarterbacks coach Pete Thomas, defensive coordinator Bryan Brown, offensive line coach Nic Cardwell and inside linebackers coach Derek Nicholson.
Brown and Nicholson are already on the road recruiting. They visited high three-star 2023 safety Jayden Davis on Wednesday.
