Baylor Wins Big 12 Title Game 21-16, Opening Playoff Door for UC

The Bearcats needed an Oklahoma State loss on Saturday.

CINCINNATI — Bearcats and Baylor fans rejoice!

The Big 12 Championship game came down to a goal-line stand, and Baylor sunk its claws into Oklahoma State's College Football layoff hopes. The Bears took out Mike Gundy and the Cowboys 21-16 on Saturday. The defensive struggle embodied "game of inches."

Oklahoma State rushed for just 1.8 yards per carry, and their struggles came to a head in their final red-zone trip before bowl season. Cowboys quarterback Spencer Sanders kept up his issues against the Bears with 257 yards and four interceptions.

Cincinnati needed one of two scenarios to pair with an AAC Championship title. The first involved the Georgia Bulldogs beating the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game, and the other came down to Baylor beating OSU. The football gods obliged with the latter.

A victory in the AAC Championship game should make UC the first Group of 5 school to play in the CFP. Kickoff against No. 21 Houston is at 4 p.m. ET on ABC.
