Former Florida running back Trevor Etienne announced via On3Sports on Sunday that he is transferring to Georgia, the archrival of the team in which he spent the first two seasons of his college career.

Etienne's NCAA transfer portal entry, which was largely anticipated as the product of a spinning college football rumor mill, was made official on Dec. 7. In a corresponding message posted the same day,  Etienne thanked Florida teammates, coaches and fans for their support over his two years with the program.

The loss is of great significance as Billy Napier enters a crucial third offseason as Florida's head coach, after the team produced back-to-back losing campaigns to begin his time in Gainesville. Etienne was one of the first prospects Napier pursued and acquired in the role, as the running back committed to and signed with UF in early 2022.

His expected move to a bitter foe of the Gators only rubs salt in Florida's wound, although Napier treated Etienne with respect on his way out the door nonetheless.

"Yeah, I think Trevor's been great for the Gators. That's what I would say," Napier said on Dec. 20, referencing Etienne's exit from Florida. "I've got nothing but respect for Trevor. His attitude, his practice habits, his contribution to the team, nothing but respect. We wish him well going forward."

Etienne finished his two-year Florida career having rushed 249 times for 1,472 yards, averaging 5.9 yards per attempt, and 14 touchdowns, with 30 receptions for 238 yards and a score added in the passing game. He also averaged 24.8 yards per attempt over 26 kickoff returns.

He made 24 appearances with the Gators, including the first start of his career in Florida's 2023 season finale, against Florida State.

Like Etienne, former Gators quarterback Max Brown (Charlotte), wide receiver Caleb Douglas (Texas Tech), tight end Jonathan Odom (Eastern Michigan), edge rusher Princely Umanmielen (Ole Miss), safety Kamari Wilson (Arizona State), offensive tackle Jordan Herman (Charlotte), defensive back Jadarrius Perkins and offensive lineman Jalen Farmer (Kentucky) have found new programs via the transfer portal this postseason.

Etienne joins Georgia with two seasons of collegiate eligibility remaining.
