ESPN's Booger McFarland Addresses FSU's College Of Business, Talks CFP Snub
ESPN college football and NFL analyst Booger McFarland addressed Florida State students on Thursday as a part of the College of Business’ Charles A. Bruning Distinguished Speaker Series.
McFarland was certainly welcomed to Tallahassee as he was one of the few ESPN personalities to disagree with the College Football Playoff’s (CFP) decision to leave out the undefeated ACC champion Seminoles this past season.

The football analyst spoke mostly about his keys to success in the business world and life.
However, during the Q/A portion, McFarland was asked about his stance concerning Florida State’s absence from the Playoff.
According to an attendee of the event, McFarland stood by what he felt was right (FSU should’ve been in) and continues to hold that belief. He also said that he thinks Florida State would’ve been one of the top four if the 12-team playoff format existed in 2023.

In early December, the Super Bowl champion said that the CFP Committee’s decision was based on projection, not based on the results prior.
“I think we have a problem, and the problem is this: we’re making judgments inside this room on what we think is going to happen on the field," McFarland said.
"I think I would've told them that this sport has always been a show me sport—you play it on the grass, between the white lines—and regardless of what we think, how many times have we been surprised by teams making a run?” McFarland questioned.
Amanda, a communications and sports management double major at FSU provided comment to NoleGameday after attending the event.
“[McFarland’s] story was so inspiring and I was so grateful to be in his presence. He provided a light in a dark place surrounding Florida State Football last year and I will never forget his honesty and integrity to speak up for what he believed in!” Amanda said.
Florida State football will open the season against Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, on Aug. 24.
