While SEC Media Days are still rolling in Nashville, Tennessee, some big news on the recruiting trail will be announced tonight as Mike Matthews will be committing. The five-star wide receiver will be choosing between Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee, and USC. So where will Matthews be committing to this evening?

Matthews is rated as the 13th-best player in the nation and the fourth-best wide receiver in the country for the 2024 class, according to 247Sports composite rankings. He took official visits to all four of the schools that he will be deciding between over the summer and his most recent and final visit was to Knoxville in late June.

Georgia really started to make a push for Matthews during this calendar year despite offering him in the month of May in 2022. The Bulldogs' wide receiver coach Bryan McClendon has helped get some momentum rolling at that position in Athens, and landing a player like Matthews would be a huge boost. Even with Georgia's efforts in this recruitment though, it never felt as if they were the front runner in the race. And right now it appears that Tennessee is the team to beat and who is the favorite to land the highly touted prospect.

Georgia doesn't often lose out on in-state prospects but they also haven't landed a five-star wide receiver since George Pickens signed his letter of intent back in 2019. Tennessee has an attractive presence for a player like Matthews with their high-powered offense, and Jaylin Hyatt winning the Biletnikoff award a season ago only helps their case for recruiting wide receivers.

The Bulldogs are looking to put the finishing touches on their 2024 recruiting class as they currently have 25 total commits this cycle, and Matthews would certainly be a massive addition to an already loaded class. As we approach Matthews' announcement though, it appears that Georgia is on the outside looking in.
