Georgia Tech Wins Game Three And The Series vs No. 10 Duke

Georgia Tech picked up a crucial series win over the Blue Devils

Georgia Tech was able to take game one from one of the top teams in the country on the road, but their comeback attempt fell short in game two. The Yellow Jackets need every ACC win they can get and that is what made today's game three crucial for their postseason chances.

Jackson Finley got the start on the mound for this big game and here is the lineup that Georgia Tech went with today:

1. 2B- Kristian Campbell

2. CF- Jake DeLeo

3. RF- Stephen Reid

4. IF- Angelo Dispigna

5. 3B- Drew Compton

6. 1B- John Giesler

7. DH- Jack Rubenstein

8. SS- Jadyn Jackson

9. C- Tyler Minnick

The offense for Georgia Tech wasted no time in getting started in the top of the 1st.

Campbell had a leadoff double and then Reid was hit by a pitch with one out. That meant Dispigna had a chance to put the Yellow Jackets in the lead with his first at-bat and that is what he did with a three-run home to give Georgia Tech a 3-0 lead in the first.

Duke got on the board early as well though.

A leadoff double and then a wild pitch let the Blue Devils put their first run on the board, Finley struck out the last two batters though and kept a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the 2nd, Minnick had a one-out single and then Campbell doubled to give the Yellow Jackets runners on second and third with one out. A sac fly from DeLeo made it 4-1 GT and that was the only run scored in the 2nd from the Yellow Jackets.

Duke once again had a leadoff double to start the bottom of the 2nd and then a fly out advanced the runner to third before he scored to make it 4-2.

Dispigna struck out to start the third inning, but Compton provided the only run of the inning on the next at-bat with a solo home run to make it 5-2.

A double and a single put runners on second and third at the start of the bottom of the 3rd for Duke. An RBI double made it 5-3 and then a sac fly scored another run to cut it to 5-4. Jett Lovett came in to replace Reid at that point and then Duke scored another run to tie the game 5-5 heading to the 4th.

Minnick had a one-out double to get the first runner on for GT in the 4th and then an RBI single from Campbell gave the lead back to Georgia Tech 6-5.

Ben King came in the game for Georgia Tech to replace Finley and he pitched a scoreless bottom of the 4th.

Dispigna started the 5th inning with a leadoff walk and then an RBI double for Compton extended the lead to 7-5 for Georgia Tech.

In the bottom of the 5th, King Nicholas Romano came in at third base for Compton. King proceeded to pitch his second straight scoreless inning and Georgia Tech led 8-5 heading to the 6th.

Both teams were scoreless in the 6th, 7th, and 8th.

Georgia Tech hoped to add more runs at the top of the 9th, but the offense could not add any insurance runs and the lead remained 8-5 heading to the bottom of the 9th.

After a leadoff walk, Terry Busse got a double play and needed just one more out to get the series win. Busse forced a ground out and Georgia Tech won the series against the No. 10 team in the country.

There is still work to be done next week against Virginia, bu this was a must-win series for the Yellow Jackets and they delivered.

The win moved the Yellow Jackets to 30-21 on the season and 12-15 in the ACC.

The Yellow Jackets travel to Mercer on Tuesday for their second matchup with the Bears this season.
