Georgia Tech Adds UMass Transfer Tafara Gapare

Gapare is the fourth addition through the transfer portal for Georgia Tech

After adding Western Carolina transfer Tyzhaun Claude on Sunday, Georgia Tech head coach Damon Stoudamire has made another addition through the transfer portal

UMass transfer Tafara Gapare committed to the Yellow Jackets today and he is an intriguing 6'9 205 LBS forward who originally hails from New Zealand. Gapare played one season for the Minutemen last season and averaged 3.4 PPG and 2.1 RPG last season. He played in 31 games and averaged a little over 12 minutes a game last season.

Gapare was ranked as the top player in Connecticut and the No. 10 power forward nationally in the class of 2023 by 247Sports (Per UMass PR).

This is a player that has an intriguing skill set and Georgia Tech has to replenish the depth it has lost via the portal. I am interested to see what kind of role Gapare can carve out this season.

Gapare is going to be joining Kowacie Reeves (Florida), Ebenezer Dowuona (NC State), and Claude as the transfers joining the program this offseason.

While Stoudamire has brought in these talented players, there has been an exodus of players leaving as well.

Guard Deivon Smith, guard Tristan Maxwell, center Cyril Martynov, forward Freds Pauls Bagatskis, forward Jordan Meka, and center Rodney Howard have all entered the transfer portal. Howard and Smith have been contributors over the past couple of seasons, but the others had small roles.

Guard Miles Kelly, the Yellow Jackets leading scorer last season, declared for the NBA Draft, but is maintaining his collegiate eligibility and could return.

Georgia Tech's transfer class currently ranks 38th on 247Sports, but that is before the addition of Claude and Gapare.
