New Prediction in for Georgia Tech to land one of the Nation's top recruits
Georgia Tech Football has been hot on the recruiting trail and it might be time for Damon Stoudamire and Georgia Tech Basketball to start gaining momentum for their 2024 class.
Earlier this week, On3 Senior National Recruiting Analyst Gerry Hamilton logged a prediction today for the Yellow Jackets to land John Bol, a high four-star player in the 2024 class who plays at The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida. Bol is a former Florida Gators commit, but backed off of his pledge on June 30th.
Bol is the No. 28 player in the country according to 247Sports and the No. 3 center in the country. He has offers from Michigan, Missouri, Clemson, Butler, UConn, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas State, Nebraska, Texas, and Wake Forest. He would bring enormous size (7'2 190 LBS) and is a skilled player with athleticism.
Here is Bol's bio, courtesy of On3:
John Bol arrived in the United States in March 2021 and immediately made an impact on the high school basketball scene. At 7-foot-2, his height is the first thing that catches your eye, but not far behind is his exuberant personality. Fans flock to him after games for photos and autographs and his charisma shows with his 4.0 GPA and the ability to speak fluently in English, Swahili and Arabic. He’s not too shabby on the court either. Originally from South Sudan, Bol started playing basketball in 2019 while living in Nairobi with his brother. He first played in the United States at St. Louis Christian Brothers where he quickly broke the school record for blocks in his sophomore season.
He transferred to Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas for the 2022-2023 high school season, and he also plays for MOKAN Elite on the Nike EYBL Circuit. “I can defend anyone, one through five,” Bol told On3’s Joe Tipton. “Because I can easily move my feet. Seven-foot guys usually cannot move well or slide their feet. But when it comes to me, that’s actually easy. Before basketball, I started playing soccer when I was six years old. So, when I switched to basketball, it was easy for me to guard people. I have a motor that I bring to the court every single day. I talk a lot on the defensive end. I have a jump shot too, with a soft touch around the rim that I’m still working on right now.”
Here is the scouting report on Bol courtesy of On3's Jamie Shaw:
"John Bol is a unique athletic specimen. At over 7-feet tall, his agility and his ability to move are not like other players his size. He has defensive upside as a weak side rim protector and someone who can move his feet when switching along the perimeter. Bol will need to add strength; he is currently very thin. He gets moved off his spots on both ends of the floor easily. The added strength could help him become a better post defender and finish better in the paint. Offensively, Bol is at his best with put backs and in lob situations. His offensive game is pretty limited right now; he has touch but needs to develop his range and some low post moves. However, his height allows him to be a vertical lob threat, and he has good hands and dexterity in the air. Bol has an intriguing upside. His flashes are starting to produce now with more strength and continued minutes and reps there is a lot of ceiling to fill"
Georgia Tech does not have a commitment for their 2024 class, but Bol would be a massive (literally) addition. Stoudamire got one four-star prospect in 2023 (forward Baye Ndongo) and brought in a top-20 transfer class ahead of the upcoming season.
