Report: Three Yellow Jackets Decide Not To Finish Playing Careers
According to a report from the AJC"s Ken Sugiura, Georgia Tech is going to be losing three veteran football players who have decided to finish their playing careers.
Offensive lineman Pierce Quick, tight end Peje' Harris, and defensive lineman T.K. Chimedza are no longer going to be playing football at Georgia Tech or anywhere else according to Sugiura.
Each of these players had eligibility remaining.
Quick came over to Georgia Tech last offseason after playing at Alabama and he did make an impact for the Yellow Jackets. According to Sugiura's report, injuries played a factor in Quick moving on from football and he is going to transfer back to Alabama to earn his degree.
Coming out of high school, Quick was one of the top offensive line recruits in the country at Hewitt-Trussville High School in the state of Alabama. A borderline five-star recruit, Quick decided to play for Nick Saban at Alabama and was hoping to be the next great lineman for the Crimson Tide. It was tough for Quick to crack the starting lineup for Alabama, however. He made four appearances during his freshman season at Alabama in 2019 but wound up redshirting the rest of the season. In 2020, he got to play in three games, which were against Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. In 2012, the only game that Quick appeared in was the season-opening victory against Miami.
He started games at left guard for the Yellow Jackets and was one of the more consistent players up front. He had two years of eligibility left.
Peje' Harris started his career at Georgia Tech as a wide receiver before moving to tight end last fall. For his career, Harris totaled 23 catches for 234 yards and one touchdown. Georgia Tech has brought in two tight end transfers this off-season (Brett Seither and Jackson Long) and still has Dylan Leonard and Luke Benson on the roster.
Chimedza has battled injuries throughout his career at Georgia Tech. During his time with the Yellow Jackets, Chimedza totaled 56 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He also had a fumble recovery in 2019 in a game against USF. He had one year of eligibility left.
Good luck to all three of these players on the next steps in their careers!
