Indiana Wide Receiver Cam Camper Makes SportsCenter Top 10 Plays, Leaves With Injury
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Early on in Friday's matchup against Indiana State, Cam Camper showed why he led Indiana in receiving yards last year despite playing just seven games.
With four minutes left in the first quarter, Indiana quarterback Tayven Jackson dropped back to pass. Looking left for Camper, Jackson lofted the ball toward the sideline just before being driven to the turf by an Indiana State pass rusher.
Camper skied through the air as the ball flew over his shoulder, making a full-extension, diving catch for a 21-yard gain. Camper signaled for a first down after bringing the Hoosiers into the red zone, and five plays later Jackson scored his first touchdown as a Hoosier on an 11-yard quarterback draw.
Camper's incredible grab earned recognition with the No. 2 spot on SportsCenter's Friday edition of Top 10 plays.
Camper was in the midst of his second game back after tearing his ACL on Oct. 22, 2022 at Rutgers. But unfortunately, Camper left Friday's game against Indiana State with a right knee injury – the same knee where Camper tore his ACL.
The injury took place with 45 seconds left in the first half of Friday's game when quarterback Brendan Sorsby threw a screen pass to Camper. Camper turned up field and gained 12 yards before being upended by Indiana State's Maddix Blackwell. It's unclear whether Camper's injury occurred when he cut, was hit or when he landed, but he was seen in visible pain on the sideline.
Camper did not return to the game for the final 37 seconds of the first half, and he did not play any snaps in the second half.
Indiana coach Tom Allen was asked about Camper's injury during the postgame press conference, but he declined to comment. Allen said he'll use the Big Ten's new pregame availability report, released no later than two hours prior to kickoff, to update Camper's injury status.
