WATCH: Quarterback Tayven Jackson Scores First Touchdown of Indiana Career
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – It took five quarters, but an Indiana quarterback has finally scored a touchdown in the 2023 season.
Tayven Jackson — the Tennessee transfer and younger brother of Trayce Jackson-Davis — found the end zone on a 10-yard scamper up the middle on a designed quarterback draw late in the first to put IU up 21-0.
After a failed second down play put the Hoosiers in a tough spot with a 3rd and goal and 10 yards to go, the draw caught Indiana State completely off-guard. Jackson bolted down the field with few defenders near him before diving past the goal line for six points. It was the third Indiana touchdown in as many drives.
Through just one quarter of play, Jackson had completed 8-of-10 pass attempts for 112 yards. His touchdown run got him back up in the positives, as he previously had negative rushing yards due to a sack earlier in the quarter.
No passing touchdowns have been thrown inside Memorial Stadium yet this season, by any team. Likewise, Jackson's teammate — Jaylin Lucas — already has scored twice himself during the first quarter on two different 25-yard touchdowns.
This was the second career touchdown for Jackson, who also had a short rushing touchdown during his lone season at Tennessee in 2022.
