Kentucky football has arguably the best WR duo in the SEC
Kentucky's offense should look massively improved in 2023.
The Wildcats did everything they could this offseason to revamp things on that side of the ball. They brought back offensive coordinator Liam Coen, landed one of the best transfer portal quarterbacks in the country in Devin Leary (NC State), added thousand-yard rusher Ray Davis (Vanderbilt), shored up the offensive line, and kept their top three receivers on roster.
Two of those receivers, Dane Key and Barion Brown, could end up being the best duo in the SEC this season.
Here's a look at some of the top duos in the conference.
Kentucky - Dane Key/Barion Brown
Brown (628 yards 4 touchdowns) and Key (519, yards 6 touchdowns) formed one of the country's best freshman receiver duos in 2022, and now as sophomores they'll be looking to build upon a hot start to their Kentucky careers.
As previously mentioned, UK's offensive scheme, line, and quarterback play should be better this fall. This should lead to bigger numbers for both Brown and Key.
Don't forget Tayvion Robinson is here.
Ole Miss - Zakhari Franklin/Jordan Watkins
Tre Harris, who had over 900 receiving yards for Louisiana Tech a season ago, could also fall here. Franklin has over 3,300 career receiving yards and transferred in from UTSA to play his final college season with the Rebs. Watkins is Ole Miss' top returning receiver from a season ago.
Alabama - Malik Benson/Jermaine Burton
Benson was the top JUCO player in the country this cycle, showing off blazing speed and big play ability, leading to a Jameson Williams comparison from 247Sports analyst Allen Trieu. Burton led the team in receiving yards a season ago.
Ja'Corey Brooks could also slide in here.
Texas A&M - Ainias Smith/Evan Stewart
Moose Muhammad III could also fall here. All three of these receivers are incredibly talented in their own right. Smith has speed. Stewart has insane body control. Muhammad has veteran experience and an awesome name.
This may be the most talented trio in the league.
Tennessee - Bru McCoy/Squirrel White
McCoy finished second on the team in yards (667) and should be the top guy for Joe Milton this fall. White (481 yards, 16.0 yards per catch) was a solid deep threat on a team full of NFL-level deep threats. Both should combine for massive numbers if Milton can get them the ball consistently.
