Texas A&M Lands Jackson State LB Transfer Jurriente Davis
Before the April transfer portal window had officially opened, Kentucky welcomed Jackson State transfer Jurriente Davis to Lexington for an official visit.
While the Wildcats made a run at the linebacker, they ultimately lost out to another SEC school, as Davis announced his commitment to Texas A&M on Thursday night, choosing the Aggies over UK:
Davis visited Kentucky on April 12, then College Station on April 16. He also held offers from Louisville, Oklahoma and UCF.
Davis still has two years of eligibility remaining, though his next school will be his fourth destination as a college football player. Originally heading to Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, the Greensboro, N.C. native first moved to Middle Tennessee State in 2021, then Jackson State to play for then-head coach Deion Sanders a season ago.
At MTSU, the 6-foot, 231-pounder managed 71 tackles, three sacks and a pair of pass deflections. He collected 14 tackles in a blowout loss to Liberty, a career-high. Under Sanders at JSU, Davis had 58 tackles including 7.5 TFL, a sack, a forced fumble, two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup.
Kentucky has been looking for depth in the linebacker room and Davis fit the bill. Veteran starters DeAndre Square, Jacquez Jones and Jordan Wright have all departed, looking to start careers in the NFL. Defensive coordinator Brad White said during the spring that finding reliable depth behind 2023 starters Trevin Wallace and D'Eryk Jackson was a necessity, calling upon the backups to fill the holes.
That search will have to continue. The portal window closes on April 30.
