The Miami Hurricanes are moving up the college football ladder because each player is making a concerted effort to improve. Even with numerous Canes being better than last season, few deserve the overall credit that left tackle Jalen Rivers does.
An offensive lineman that is capable of playing basically any of the five spots along the line, he’s holding down left tackle – and doing so quite well – while Zion Nelson recovers from injury.
Just like in the rain from the photo that leads into this article, he’s been grinding on the gridiron no matter the weather or situation. Rivers is one of Miami’s most valuable players as he helps protect quarterback Tyler Van Dyke and open up running lanes for Miami's talent in the backfield. He’s also demonstrating what it takes to be a true student-athlete.
The William V. Campbell Trophy is given to the college football player that demonstrates the best combination of athletic prowess, while also being someone that helps out through community service and academic achievement. A nickname for the award would be the Academic Heisman.
It’s awesome that Rivers is helping the Hurricanes to move up the college football landscape. Making that happen, while being a really good human being and role model for UM teammates and people in the greater Miami area, that’s a tremendously well-rounded young man right there.
