With the Miami Hurricanes close to wrapping up the 2024 recruiting class, Mario Cristobal and his staff are already at work with the 2025 recruiting class by gaining the commitment of big-time linebacker Elijah Melendez.

He just made a verbal commitment to Cristobal and the UM staff while on an unofficial visit to The U.

The 6-foot-2 and 220-pound linebacker currently attends Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola, but came to Florida from Colorado. A running back at one point, his body continues to develop and Melendez now plays and excels at linebacker.

Offers for Melendez, beyond Miami, include Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and many others. Here's what AllHurricanes wrote about Melendez via the 2025 Miami Hurricanes Commitments and Evaluations page:

"Melendez is as sculpted as one can be. He's 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds. Playing middle linebacker, he provides an old-school feel with his downhill style. Melendez looks for contact by smashing into lead blockers and blowing up the play. Then, he still finds his way to the ball carrier after a big collision."

The other two commitments from the 2025 Miami recruiting class would be quarterback Luke Nickel and wide receiver Waden Charles. All three of these young men are highly coveted and talented prospects.

Additionally, here's a video of Corey Carmona with Melendez breaking down his film and discussing his recruitment:
