Breaking Recruiting News: Miami Central's Shavers Picks Hurricanes
The latest verbal commitment for the Miami Hurricanes would be linebacker Vincent Shavers.
Coming from Miami (Fla.) Central, the 6-foot and 205-pound recruit held offers from the likes of Georgia, Florida, Florida State, UCF, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ole Miss among others.
Shavers adds to a commitment list that already had seven prospects committed. By position, with Shavers included as a linebacker, the Canes have quarterback Judd Anderson, running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey, wide receiver Chance Robinson, offensive lineman Juan Minaya, two safeties with Isaiah Thomas and Dylan Day, and kicker Abram Murray.
Here’s more information about Shavers, beginning with his recruiting rankings:
Rankings order: national, position, and state.
Rivals
: Unranked, 38, and 76.
On3
: Unranked, 92, and 94.
247
: Unranked, 79, and 121.
ESPN
: Unranked across the board.
With Shavers being the first linebacker to commit to The U within the 2024 cycle, a couple of important points about his play. He’s athletic enough to be used as a pass defender for zone or man coverage, and Shavers also packs a punch when creating contact with an opposing player carrying the football.
Long-term, he could play a hybrid linebacker role, as well as be a weak side linebacker. It’s also great to see Miami get back into Central, a program that’s been good to the Hurricanes for decades.
