Kyle McCord Defends Ohio State Coach Ryan Day vs. Lou Holtz
Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord voiced his support for Ryan Day's comments following Saturday's victory against Notre Dame.
The junior Buckeyes signal caller said Day showed he and his teammates how much he supported them by calling out critics like former Fighting Irish coach Lou Holtz.
"It means a lot," McCord said. "I think every single guy on this team has Coach Day's back, and we all know that he has ours. And for him to go do that, I think it showed his true emotion and how he feels about this team. I think that fired the guys up a lot."
Last weekend was the most animated fans or media have seen Day since he took over as head coach of the Buckeyes in 2018. Not even multiple trips to the College Football Playoff (CFP) or two-straight losses to Michigan have been enough to get Ohio State's helmsman that fired up.
McCord said the unusually electric response from Day was a pleasant surprise, especially following such a tight victory.
"You don't really see too many head coaches after a game like that show that type of emotion," he added. "And for him to do that on that type of a stage, it showed everyone on the team how much he cares about us."
Ohio State receiver Emeka Egbuka also agreed with Day's comments, adding that his support would also apply to future games as well.
"I fully support everything Coach Day said and everything that he's going to say in the future," Egbuka added. "That's my head coach. We're all going to rally behind him and we believe he can get us to where we want to be."
