Kyle McCord Hitting Stride At Best Time For Ohio State Buckeyes
Marvin Harrison Jr. might get the headlines on Saturday night, but Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord might have just had the best game of his career in the team's 38-3 win over the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday night.
The junior quarterback has been a stud for the Buckeyes this season, leading Ohio State's top Big Ten passing offense, which also ranks No. 25 in the country.
In fact, through 10 games, McCord is averaging 268.8 yards and has thrown for 20 touchdowns, solidifying himself as a top quarterback in the conference.
Saturday, however, McCord looked as good as ever throwing for 335 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Harrison Jr.
McCord's other touchdown went to his star tight end, hitting Cade Stover, for an 18-yard score with time winding down in the first half.
Were the Spartans the best benchmark for the young Buckeyes signal caller? Not exactly. In fact, Michigan State ranks 10th in the Big Ten in pass defense, and 57th overall in the country, giving up 222 yards per game through the air.
What it was, however, was a sign to the Buckeyes that they can let McCord loose and air it out when they need to - something that has not always been on the table this season.
One way or another though, McCord will be tested in the coming weeks, when they head to the Big House to take on the Michigan Wolverines and their No. 1 ranked pass defense on Nov. 25.
Before that, they head to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers, in their final conference tune-up before the date with Michigan.
And if McCord can show up with anything similar to what he displayed on Saturday vs. the Spartans, it should be all smiles on the Buckeyes sidelines heading into the final week.
