WATCH: Ryan Day, Jim Knowles Review Ohio State Fall Camp
Both Ryan Day and Jim Knowles are scheduled to speak today as the Ohio State Buckeyes prepare to conclude 2023 Fall Camp and begin official practices.
Several topics are expected to be on the docket for this press conference, one of which is some final depth-chart placements for key offensive and defensive positions.
For example, which Buckeyes have earned the starting tackle and center roles on the offensive line? Two popular choices for those positions are senior Josh Fryar and sophomore Carson Hinzman, respectively.
However, the biggest 'what if' on the minds of media (and no doubt fans, as well), is if this podium session will feature a long-awaited answer to Ohio State's starting-quarterback question.
The two favorites to win the job are junior Kyle McCord and sophomore Devin Brown, in that order. Both quarterbacks have been said by Day to have plenty of upside, but lack the consistency he would like to see in a starting quarterback.
Last Monday, Day said he could be ready to announce a decision following that week's "crucial" series of practices, adding it would fall in line with when starting QBs have been revealed in years past.
The next scheduled time for Day to speak isn't until Thursday, August 29: the start of his weekly, regular-season press conferences.
Waiting until then to announce the starter could raise some red flags about the quality of the quarterback room, especially since it would be much later than in previous seasons.
Knowles will follow Day's session at the podium, making this the first time he has spoken to the media since Thursday, August 3.
Some popular talking points for Knowles could be graduate linebacker Tommy Eichenberg's renewal as a team captain and his thoughts on how sophomore transfer cornerback Davison Igbinosun is adjusting to the Buckeyes' scheme.
