Buckeyes CB Davison Igbinosun 'Can Check' WR Marvin Harrison Jr.

The Ohio State Buckeyes sound like they might have their starting cornerback duo, but depth is never a negative.

When he was with the Ole Miss Rebels, cornerback Davison Igbinosun squared off against wide receivers like LSU's Malik Nabers and Kayshon Boutte, Texas A&M's Evan Stewart and Alabama's Jermaine Burton.

With all due respect, none of them hold a candle to Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.'s skillset. Igbinosun has been covering Harrison at times in practice, and he said the battles are a little closer than you may think.

"I can check Marvin," Igbinosun said. "He's the best player in the country, but me and him go at it. It's 50-50."

Last season with the Rebels, Igbinosun recorded 37 tackles and five pass break-ups. Now, after transferring to Ohio State, he lost his Black Stripe in the spring and is competing for a starting cornerback job.

For now, he's on the outside looking in to a starting duo of Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock, but he said facing the Buckeyes' "best receivers in the country" makes facing other pass-catchers that much easier to cover.

What better receiver to hone in your skills as a cornerback than Harrison?

"It's his first step," Igbinosun said. "He fires off the football. I think it's his first step. He's a big dude, but he can cut on a dime. He's the real deal."

Entering spring ball, Igbinosun wore No. 20, but now dons the No. 1 — a highly contested jersey number in any locker room. Igbinosun said he had to "earn" the right to where No. 1.

"I had to gain the trust of the team first before I could get No. 1," Igbinosun said. "Just coming here to seeing Jeff Okudah do what he did at corner, so I'm just trying to be better than that, so that's why I put 1 on."
