C.J. Stroud is No. 1 on Chris Simms' QB Prospect List

Former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud threw for 8,123 yards and 85 touchdowns in his two-year tenure as a starter.

With April's draft just over a month away and multiple teams in the top 10 needing quarterbacks, each NFL prospect will be brushed through with a fine-tooth comb to find out who the best is.

Former NFL quarterback and NBC Sports NFL analyst Chris Simms did his due diligence and "based on film," former Ohio State Buckeyes signal-caller C.J. Stroud stands alone in Simms' tier 1 of all the draft-eligible gunslingers.

Simms' list is a little different than most NFL draft experts. While he does rank each quarterback individually, he has some prospects grouped together in tiers.

Stroud marks the upper echelon of the six listed, while Alabama's Bryce Young and Tennessee's Hendon Hooker make up tier 2 at Nos. 2 and 3 overall, respectively.

Florida's Anthony Richardson is the lone quarterback in tier 3 as the fourth-best option, while fifth and sixth are held by UCLA's Dorian Thomspon-Robinson and Kentucky's Will Levis in tier 4.

Stroud's surge to the top of mock drafts is a result of a multitude of factors.

He put his record-setting talents on display under center for Ohio State the past two seasons, but his NFL Scouting Combine workout wowed both scouts and analysts alike.

Also, with the Carolina Panthers trading up to the No. 1 overall selection March 10, it looks like they did so to get their next franchise quarterback.

According to SI Sportsbook, Stroud is currently the favorite to be taken with the first pick at -200.

Stroud will have one final opportunity to showcase his skillset at Ohio State's Pro Day Wednesday.
