BREAKING: Ohio State Lands Ole Miss Transfer DT Tywone Malone
Ohio State Buckeyes defensive line coach Larry Johnson has been known to rotate a lot of players on the front four over the course of a game, and he just picked up another piece to do so.
The Buckeyes picked up a commitment in the transfer portal from Ole Miss Rebels defensive tackle Tywone Malone on Tyesday, who ranks as a top-45 defensive line and is a three-star transfer prospect, according to 247Sports. Malone will have immediate eligibility upon his arrival in Columbus.
Malone was also a power-hitting first baseman for Ole Miss' baseball team during his time in Oxford, MS., mashing three home runs in 19 career at-bats as part of the Rebels' 2022 national championship team. It is unknown at this time whether or not Malone will be a two-sport athlete for head coach Bill Mosiello at Ohio State.
On the gridiron, the four-star recruit from Jamesburg, N.J. redshirted his 2021 season, making three tackles and a sack in one game played. In 2022, Malone recorded 10 tackles and one sack, playing in all 13 of the Rebels' games.
In the portal this offseason, Ohio State has beefed up its secondary with safety Ja'Had Carter and cornerbacks Davison Igbinosun and Lorenzo Styles Jr., as Malone marks the first prospect the Buckeyes have picked up on the defensive line.
Malone will look to earn playing time against a wealth of competition in defensive tackles Mike Hall Jr., Tyleik Williams, Ty Hamilton, Jaden McKenzie and Hero Kanu.
