Two Ohio State Buckeyes Listed Top 25 in Most Recent NFL Draft Projections
It's no secret that Ohio State's offense has talent to spare, and ESPN analyst Mel Kiper's latest NFL Draft projections have done nothing less than confirm that.
On Kiper's Big Board, which was last updated this Friday, Buckeye receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka were both listed as potential Top 25 selections. After Week 2's victory over Youngstown State in which both wide outs scored, it's not difficult to see why.
Harrison Jr. is listed as the second best overall draft prospect behind last year's Heisman winner, USC quarterback Caleb Williams, as well as the top pass catcher in the 2024 class.
The Buckeyes' junior quarterback Kyle McCord takes the reins as the first string field general without much experience, so it's a safe bet that he'll be looking to the talented Harrison Jr. quite a bit. After Harrison Jr.'s 14 touchdown sophomore season in 2022, and having already notched two scores this year, it's likely that the junior route runner stays in high position on everyone's draft board.
The opposite may be true for Egbuka, who continues to climb the draft boards in most expert's eyes. Kiper ranked the junior receiver from Dupont, Washington at number 23 and cataloged him as the sixth best wide out in the 2024 draft class. Egbuka has made just one trip to the end zone through 2023's first two weeks, but believes head coach Ryan Day's decision to name a full-time starting quarterback could be the key to the success of this Ohio State offense.
Several other Buckeyes were mentioned as probable early draft picks, such as senior tight end Cade Stover and junior running back TreVeyon Henderson, but OSU will need to improve their performance as a whole if they want to remain in these conversations.
They've put forth two largely uninspired performances so far, and have just one more game to fully prepare until they face ninth ranked Notre Dame in Week 4. Until then, Harrison Jr., Egbuka, and the rest of the Buckeyes will have a Week 3 clash with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers to sharpen their skills before their prime-time bout in South Bend.
