Ole Miss RHP Jack Dougherty Drafted By Minnesota Twins In 9th Round of MLB Draft
OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels RHP Jack Dougherty was drafted with the No. 267 pick in the ninth round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins on Monday afternoon.
Dougherty is the fourth Rebel to come off the board in this year's draft and the first pitcher selected, joining Jacob Gonzalez (Chicago White Sox), Kemp Alderman (Miami Marlins), and Calvin Harris (Chicago White Sox).
In 2023, the junior appeared in 15 games for Ole Miss and started in nine of them due to injuries to the Rebels' pitching staff this season. The Collierville, Tenn., native registered 60.1 innings of work recording a 6.27 ERA with a 3-4 record and two saves. Dougherty led all Ole Miss starters in ERA this spring and finished second on the team in opposing batting average (.261), saves, innings pitched, and strikeouts (65).
Dougherty finished the 2023 season with 63 hits, 42 earned runs, 22 walks, and 65 strikeouts.
Dougherty was a critical part of Ole Miss' pitching staff during their national championship run in 2022. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound pitcher earned the win in game one of the CWS Finals versus the Oklahoma Sooners, after throwing five innings and recording six strikeouts.
In his three-year career with the Rebels, Dougherty posted a 5.64 ERA, 162 strikeouts, 81 earned runs, and an even 9-9 record with four saves.
