Ole Miss Lands Western Kentucky Transfer Jamarion Sharp
Ole Miss Rebels coach Chris Beard might've just gotten his biggest transfer commitment as the head man in Oxford.
Literally.
The Rebels secured their third transfer commitment of the offseason on Thursday, landing Western Kentucky 7-5, 235-pound center Jamarion Sharp, per reports from On3. Sharp has played the last two seasons with the Hilltoppers as one of the best players at the mid-major level.
Beard and Ole Miss now have an elite paint presence on the defensive end, as Sharp has led the country in blocks the last two seasons. This past season, he averaged 7.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and an incredible 4.4 blocks per game while also being the nation's runaway leader in total blocks with a whopping 131 rejections for the season. This was 21 more than the country's second-place finisher.
It can't be overstated how insane some of Sharp's defensive numbers were last season, which is likely to give the Rebels a significant advantage against the talent of the SEC. He had 10 games of six or more blocks and a season-high eight rejections on Nov. 15. These are man-amongst-boys type of numbers.
With his massive size, Sharp also proved to be a solid offensive option in the interior, as he reached the double-digit scoring mark 10 times this past season. In an Ole Miss offense that will feature more play-makers around him than he had at Western Kentucky, similar production is likely in store.
The Rebels now have Sharp, Arizona State transfer Austin Nunez and Georgetown transfer Brandon Murray as new faces that will be arriving to Oxford this offseason. Beard will look to keep the momentum going, as the Rebels are still awaiting a potential commitment from elite North Texas transfer guard Tylor Perry on May 2.
