Jayden Williams Believes 'Leaders of The Team' on Ole Miss Rebels O-Line

Ole Miss Rebels offensive lineman Jayden Williams is poised to dominate in his second season starting at left tackle.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels offensive lineman Jayden Williams did not see the field immediately when he arrived as a freshman in 2021 as an injury forced him to be redshirted for the entire season.

He returned in 2022, however, and started in all 13 games for the Rebels at left tackle, logging close to 1,000 snaps protecting his quarterback's blindside. Entering the 2023 season, Williams is now one of the leaders of the offensive line room, a group that is arguably the Rebels' most experienced unit.

Williams met with the local media recently and expressed extreme confidence in the group's experience and depth.

"We've got experienced transfers like [Victor Curne] and [Quincy McGee]," Williams told reporters. "And then you got me, [Micah Pettus], a lot of other guys that have played a lot of football games. Our room is like the leaders of the team so as long as we push everybody else pushes too."

Including Williams, the Rebels are returning four starters along their offensive line and added extra veteran depth via the transfer portal to contend for spots in Ole Miss' rotation in the trenches.

Williams delved into how the team has been experimenting with its offensive line rotation during fall camp.

"We're just trying to figure out who messes together the best," Williams said. "Like giving everyone different chances to play with different people. We want to find out what five [linemen] play the best with each other."

Continuity along the offensive line is critical to making sure everyone is on the same page, especially when a new face rotates next to you.

"[Continuity] is always important," Williams said. "Everyone has to be on the same page consistently. Which comes back to the rotating. When you get a new face beside you, sometimes that's where stuff starts to go downhill. But we're all used to playing with each other and we're all on the same page, because if one person's wrong we're all wrong."
