Ole Miss RB Quinshon Judkins Named To Doak Walker Award Watch List
OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels running back Quinshon Judkins was named to the Doak Walker Award Preseason Watch List on Wednesday by the SMU Athletic Forum.
The Doak Walker Award is presented annually to the best running back in college football. The award is named after former SMU Mustangs tailback Doak Walker, who was a three-time All-America running back.
Judkins is among the 75 FBS tailbacks and seven in the SEC to be considered for the award in 2023. University athletic departments can continue to nominate candidates for the prestigious trophy through October. The winner of the 2023 Doak Walker Award will be announced on Dec. 7 during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
Judkins made the list after he put the nation on notice as a true freshman, leading the SEC in carries (274), rushing yards (1,567), and touchdowns (16) in 2022. Judkins now holds the Ole Miss single-season records in both rushing yards and touchdowns.
The Pike Road, Ala., native was named the 2022 SEC Newcomer and SEC Freshman of the Year for his historic freshman campaign. Judkins' 1,567 rushing yards are the second-most ever recorded by an SEC freshman, behind only Georgia Bulldogs legend Herschel Walker, who recorded 1,616 in 1980.
The sophomore tailback is poised to reach similar or greater heights in 2023 running behind one of the deepest offensive lines Ole Miss has fielded in recent memory.
Entering the 2023 season, Judkins has already been named to the Maxwell Award watch list and has earned Preseason All-America and first-team Preseason All-SEC honors by the SEC media, Walter Camp, Lindy’s, Athlon Sports, and Phil Steele.
