Ole Miss Rebels RB Ulysses Bentley Feels 'Healthier' Entering 2023 Season
OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels running back Ulysses Bentley transferred into Oxford ahead of the 2022 season with aspirations of being a key contributor to Lane Kiffin's offense.
However, after scoring Ole Miss' first offensive touchdown last season, Bentley would only appear in six games thanks to a wrist injury. Bentley finished his 2022 campaign recording 16 carries for 73 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Flash forward to Ole Miss' 2023 fall camp, and Bentley has again been wearing a non-contact jersey early in practices.
The senior tailback was available to speak with the media on Tuesday after practice and discussed how he feels with Week 1 around the corner.
"I was out for a week and a half but right now I feel better and healthier," Bentley said. "It was good to be back out [on the practice field] with the guys today."
The Rebels' running back group got a last-minute boost in depth when Jam Griffin elected to transfer to Ole Miss at the beginning of August and Bentley talked about how the newcomer is fitting in.
"Jam is actually a great fit," Bentley said. "He runs very hard and he's also playing hard on special teams. He's definitely a great fit."
Bentley also opened up about the depth of his position group.
"I think the depth is good," Bentley said. "It just shows that if one of us goes down, we have someone who can be there and just pick it up immediately."
With Quinshon Judkins slated to be Ole Miss' "bell cow" back in 2023, the Rebels have been utilizing Bentley in different positions and it appears he will have an expanded role in the offense this season.
"I play running back, but they're lining me up at slot receiver and letting me get out and run a few routes," Bentley said. "I definitely like what they're doing with me."
