Jericho Johnson, All-American Defensive Lineman Commits to Oregon Ducks
The big bodies are lining up to play for Dan Lanning in Eugene.
2024 Fairfield (Calif.) Armijo defensive lineman Jericho Johnson has committed to Oregon.
He announced his decision over social media on Thursday night.
Johnson is listed at 6'4", 300 pounds and made his commitment to the Ducks from a final group that also included the Washington Huskies, the USC Trojans and the Utah Utes.
The newest addition to Oregon's 2024 recruiting class made a recent trip out to Eugene earlier this month for his final official visit, as Tosh Lupoi and the rest of the coaching staff continued pushing for one of the best defensive talents on the West Coast.
I predicted that Johnson would commit to Oregon on October 3.
PREDICTION: Oregon to Land All-American Defensive Lineman
The Northern California native is rated a four-star (0.9361) recruit according to the 247Sports Composite. The same system ranks him the No. 149 player nationally, the No. 22 defensive lineman and the No. 15 recruit in California.
As a senior in 2023, Johnson finished the season with 52 total tackles, 9 sacks, 9 tackles for loss and 2 pass breakups.
He now joins what is likely going to be recognized as the best defensive line haul in the country for the 2024 cycle.
After earning Adidas All-American distinction himself, he'll play alongside a duo of All-Americans on the interior in Aydin Breland (Santa Ana, CA) and Xadavien Sims (Durant, OK), as well as St. Louis standout Tionne Gray (MO).
He's the 26th overall commitment for Dan Lanning and the Ducks in what is now the best recruiting class in Oregon program history, landing firmly inside the top five nationally along with the likes of Texas, Miami and Ohio State.
Lanning and his coaching staff have placed a major emphasis on recruiting in the trenches, and a stellar interior defensive line group will be accompanied by a strong pair of edge rushers as well in five-star Elijah Rushing and Jaxson Jones.
Signing big-time recruits, particularly at the line of scrimmage, has the Ducks positioned for success as they transition to the Big Ten in 2024. The biggest name still on Oregon's board for this recruiting cycle is Burley (Id.) wide receiver Gatlin Bair, who will not sign during the early signing period and is focusing on Oregon and Michigan before he makes his final decision.
