What's Next for Oregon Recruiting After Landing Ify Obidegwu?

It looks like Dan Lanning and the Ducks are getting ready to turn it up a notch on the recruiting trail.
In this story:

Oregon is surging up the recruiting rankings after landing 2024 Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy cornerback Ify Obidegwu on Sunday.

Recruiting never stops, which means Duck fans are already asking what's next for Dan Lanning and company on the trail.

I'm here to give you my latest intel on what's ahead, both in the high school ranks and in the transfer portal.

Gary Bryant Jr.

With Obidegwu in the fold, most of the attention now turns to the USC wide receiver transfer, who is reportedly expected to announce his decision on Saturday May 13.

I've talked to a good amount of people about Bryant and I continue to hear that Oregon is in a great spot and the Ducks really like their chances here. What I can't get over though is the possibility of adding Zakhari Franklin, the UTSA transfer wide receiver.

He was more productive than Bryant and he may have a stronger connection to the coaching staff--for whatever that's worth. I'm not trying to take anything away from Bryant as a player, merely mentioning that adding one or both of these receivers could be a very interesting development for the Ducks in the portal.

Do they want both? Would they take both? Just one?

I'm not sure, but for now the buzz I'm hearing continues to make me believe the Ducks are the team to beat.

Michael Van Buren

If you could gauge how loud the buzz was around a recruit, you'd probably blow out the speakers if you were talking about Michael Van Buren and the Ducks.

Did that creative language work? Maybe it was a stretch, but hopefully you get my point. Oregon has been surging for Van Buren ever since his visit for the spring game and the Elite 11 Eugene Regional.

Adding one of his teammates at St. Frances only adds to Oregon's appeal, even if Obidegwu plays on the other side of the ball. He's gone on record saying he isn't afraid of competition, which makes it seem like he's willing to be a part of a two quarterback class alongside Luke Moga.

The Oregon commits haven't been shy about recruiting him to Eugene and the Ducks certainly look like they're in the driver's seat. I'm getting pretty close to putting in a prediction for Oregon here and maybe it's time.

Trey Amos

The former Louisiana Lafayette cornerback has been one of the hottest names in the transfer portal since he entered on May 1.

He took visits to Alabama and LSU this weekend and I'm the latest I'm being told is that a visit to Oregon is in the works--so don't be surprised if he pops up on campus in the near future.

The Ducks added five cornerbacks from the high school ranks in the 2023 class and former cornerback Khyree Jackson, but it looks like the staff still thinks the room could use some help and they've zeroed in on Amos as their guy.

Dillon Gresham

The 2024 San Jacinto (Calif.) wide receiver continues to be a name to watch for Oregon. The Ducks have been very active on the recruiting trail in Southern California and are looking to continue adding to an impressive haul that already features wideouts Jordan Anderson and Tyseer Denmark. They're also firmly in the mix for a trio of Mater Dei standouts: RB Nate Frazier, CB Zabien Brown and OT Brandon Baker as well as Serra CB Dakoda Fields and Long Beach Poly LB Dylan Williams.

I'm told that Gresham is a guy Junior Adams really likes and if you look at his skillset and production it's not hard to see why. What I'm more interested in is how many wide receivers the Ducks want to take this class and who they view as major priorities.

They're in the top schools for a lot of guys, namely Ryan Pellum, Aaron Butler, James Madison II, Jeremiah McClellan and Terry Bussey among others. Either way, I keep hearing more positive buzz connecting Gresham to Oregon, so keep tabs on him.
