Qudus Wahab, a 6-11 Center, Transferring to Penn State
Qudas Wahab, a veteran 6-11 center who has played at Georgetown and Maryland, is transferring to Penn State for his final season of eligibility. Wahab announced his decision Thursday, bringing 88 career starts to the Nittany Lions in 2023.
Wahab is transferring for the third time in his college career. He spent his first two seasons at Georgetown, starting a combined 32 games, then transferred to Maryland for the 2021-22 season. Last year he transferred back to Georgetown, where he started 25 games, averaging 9.6 points and 7.1 rebounds. Wahab entered the NCAA Transfer Portal in late March, after Georgetown introduced Ed Cooley as its new head coach.
Wahab immediately adds an interior presence to coach Mike Rhoades' developing roster. At Georgetown last season, Wahab posted four double-doubles and scored a season-high 23 points against La Salle. The previous season at Maryland, Wahab started 31 of the team's 32 games, averaging 7.7 points and 5.6 rebounds. Wahab's best season was his sophomore campaign in 2020-21, when he scored 12.7 points per game for Georgetown, helping the team win the Big East Tournament title. Wahab also averaged 8.2 rebounds per game and registered eight double-doubles.
“We can’t wait to get to work with Qudus this summer," Rhoades said in a statement announcing Wahab's signing. "He brings a level of experience and ability that we want in our program. I have known and watched Qudus for quite some time and am excited to see him in our style of play. He will impact our success from day one both on and off the court."
Wahab, who is from Nigeria, played high school basketball at Virginia Academy and Flint Hill School. He was a consensus 4-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting class.
Wahab's commitment continued Rhoades' swift rebuild of Penn State's roster. The Lions have landed five players from the NCAA Transfer Portal, including talent from North Carolina and Temple. Rhoades also signed two of his former players from VCU.
