PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are already in Oakland, going through preliminary workouts as the retooled roster prepares for a pivotal basketball season that begins this fall. One young Panther, however, has taken a brief hiatus from those workouts to represent his home country in the FIBA U20 European Championships, taking place in Podgorica, Montenegro.

Guillermo Diaz-Graham, a 6' 11" forward from the Canary Islands, is now three games deep into the group stage of FIBA competition and his team is 3-0 after beating Ukraine handily, __-__ on Monday. It is the Spaniards' third victory in as many days, as they downed Lithuania 75-65 on Saturday and the Czech Republic 88-71 on Sunday.

Diaz-Graham played sparingly in the opener against Lithuania and recorded just two points, a rebound and two blocks in 14 minutes. But he's seen his playing time increase with each passing day. Against the Czechs, he played 21 minutes and scored eight points on 3-5 shooting from the field. He also grabbed a pair of rebounds, made an assist and blocked a shot.

Monday was his best game of the tournament so far. He played just 17 minutes but cracked double-figure scoring again with 10 points and hauled in two offensive rebounds. The rangy Pitt freshman was a menace defensively - blocking three shots and collecting three steals.

Spain, undefeated leaders of Group C, get a day off tomorrow before beginning the single-elimination tournament round of the competition. Their tip-off time and opponent will be determined at the end of today's games. Fans can find live streams and replays of every game on FIBA's Youtube page.
