PITTSBURGH -- Paul Mulcahy spent less than a full 24 hours in the transfer portal before he began fielding offers from high major schools, including the Pitt Panthers.

Pitt was one of nine schools to contact Mulcahy this week according to a report from college basketball recruiting insider Adam Zagoria. The Panthers, alongside Kentucky, Gonzaga, Kansas, Michigan, Kansas State, West Virginia, Xavier and Washington, all reached out to Mulcahy.

Mulcahy's baseline stats are good enough to garner a look - 8.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists to just per game 1.8 turnovers per game. He's also played in 121 career games, 81 of which were starts, and has played in three NCAA Tournament games over two years. What's more, Mulcahy's a 35.7% 3-point shooter for his career, which doesn't hurt.

The advanced stats also paint a picture of a player that even further fits what the Panthers need. Mulcahy's posted an assist rate north of 28% for each of the past two seasons - an elite mark among Division I players. Not only is he a plus defender (career-high 3.2 defensive box plus-minus and 2.9% steal rate last season) he is remarkably efficient offensively (103.1 offensive rating on just 17.7 usage rate).
