PITTSBURGH -- After losing four of their top guards to graduation, the Pitt Panthers have been searching for reinforcements from the transfer portal.

The Panthers had missed on one of their top priorities in former Niagra lead guard Noah Thomasson, who committed to Georgia, and began to look elsewhere. They reached out to Georgia Tech transfer Deivon Smith earlier this week but he has already chosen another school. He opted to play for Utah next season and announced his decision on Twitter.

Smith was a reserve guard for the Yellow Jackets last season, but still played significant minutes. In 24 games and 13 starts, Smith averaged eight points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while making 26% of his 3-point shots and 44% of his 2-pointers. He's a tremendous athlete with the ability to defend multiple positions and rebound well for his size.

The Panthers have two open scholarships remaining after adding High Point transfer Zack Austin and Rhode Island transfer Ishmael Leggett this spring.
