PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers, working to fill the final roster spot for their 2023-24 team, worked their way into the last cut of schools for West Virginia transfer Joe Toussaint.

One day after announcing a final three of Pitt, Kansas State and Texas Tech, Toussaint has made his final decision and announced that he would join the Red Raiders this season.

Pitt overcame some stiff competition to even get to this point. A litany of other high major programs - Gonzaga, Kansas State, DePaul, Seton Hall, Nebraska, Notre Dame, St. John's, Georgetown, Texas Tech, Okahoma and Oklahoma State, among others - have all contacted Toussaint as well in the hours since he decided to transfer.

Toussaint took a visit to Pitt this past weekend and also took trips to see the Wildcats and Red Raiders, according to a report from George Michalowski of The Portal Report.

After transferring to West Virginia from Iowa last season, Toussaint stepped into a major bench role for the Mountaineers and thrived, averaging career-high averages in minutes (21.7), points (9.4) and rebounds (2.8).

He is not an outstanding shooter but would give the Panthers a strong backcourt defender and steady presence at the guard spot, which is all of a sudden very young after losing Jamarius Burton, Nike Sibande, Nelly Cummings and Greg Elliot to graduation.
