Pitt Snaps College Basketball's Longest Home Winning Streak

The Pitt Panthers emerged victorious in college basketball's most impenetrable venue.

CHARLOTTESVILLE -- The Pitt Panthers picked up a massive win in one of the most hostile venues in all of college basketball and in doing so did more than just add to a budding NCAA Tournament resume.

With their 74-61 victory over the dominant home body No. 21 Virginia Cavaliers at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Panthers snapped a 23-game home winning streak for the Wahoos that was the longest active one in college basketball.

The last team to take down the Cavaliers in Charlottesville was Houston, who was ranked No. 5 at the time and plays like a carbon copy of Virginia. That was way back in December of 2022 and those Cougars went on to win their conference title and play in the Elite Eight.

Pitt also played as well as anyone has this season against the Virginia defense, racking up 35 points in the first half - eight more than the second-highest scoring total of an opponent in Charlottesville this season. Just five teams have scored 70 or more points against Virginia's vaunted packline defense this season and none have done in Charlottesville except for the Panthers.

Pitt is now riding high, having won six of their last seven and taken down two top-25 teams over that same span. And as the Wahoos try to start a new winning streak inside John Paul Jones Arena, they'll remember how the Panthers snapped the previous streak.
