Pitt F William Jeffress Cleared from Injury

The Pitt Panthers will get back a key veteran wing this season.

PITTSBURGH -- A foot injury kept him sidelined for all of the 2022-23 season and cost the Pitt Panthers one of their best wing defenders, but William Jeffress has been cleared from that injury and will be back with the team in a full capacity this fall.

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel shared the news of Jeffress' return with CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein. Jeffress suffered his injury last November, underwent surgery in December and just got back to practice when the team began their NCAA Tournament run in March.

Jeffress was one of the highest-rated recruits Capel had ever brought to Pittsburgh, but he's young relative to his peers after graduating from high school a year early. Jeffress has averaged 3.0 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in 47 career contests - 20 of which were starts - in a Pitt uniform. He became known as a solid, versatile defender as well.

Pitt hoped to get a medical redshirt fo Jeffress so he could retain all three remaining years of eligibility.
