Stephen: Final: Louisville 57, Pitt 91.

The Panthers could do no wrong tonight. They shot well, moved the ball, defended with force and precision while beating up on one of the worst teams in Division I.

The game ended with reserves getting extensive run while starters took some rest and Pitt won its 10th conference game - the most this program has in a season since its first year in the ACC in 2013-14. Pitt won 11 conference contests in all that season and these Panthers have seven games left to tie or beat that mark.

Stephen: Walk-on K.J. Marshall checks in to get some run with Nate Santos, Nike Sibande and the Diaz Graham twins.

Stephen: With the Panthers leading 75-45 and 7:47 to play in the game, Jeff Capel is beginning to empty his bench. Nelly Cummings is the only starter was on the floor when the last television timeout was called and even he could be destined for the bench very soon.

Meanwhile, the twins Jorge and Guillermo Diaz Graham are getting some burn battling with Louisville's athletic bigs. This will be valuable, extensive experience for the raw freshmen.

Stephen: Three Panthers have scored in double figures, five have scored at least eight and all but one who's entered the game have scored twice. Pitt leads 70-42 at the under-12 media timeout behind a balanced scoring attack.

Stephen:

Stephen: Halftime: Louisville 27, Pitt 47.

The Panthers are shooting 62% from the floor, 60% from 3-point range and 85.7% from the free throw line. They’ve assisted on 14 of 16 made field goals and are averaging 1.469 points per possession. The Cardinals, on the other hand, have made less than 30% of their field goals and 3-point attempts, are averaging .871 points per possession and fallen behind 18-12 in rebounding.

In the words of Mike Tomlin, there is nothing mystical about it. There is a reason Louisville and Pitt are separated by 231 spots in KenPom rankings.

Stephen:

Stephen: Nate Santos checked in and immediately knocked down an and-1 3-pointer, then Nike Sibande hit consecutive shots. Maybe this is just the Panthers' night. Louisville has given up a lot of open looks but Pitt can't miss either. It's a 19-3 run for the home team and they lead 33-17 at the under-eight media timeout.

Stephen: Pitt has made seven of their last nine field goals and has outscored Louisville 12-4 over the last 3:28. They'll take a 24-16 lead into the second media timeout thanks in large part to Greg Elliot, who's made his first three attempts from deep and leads all scorers with nine points.

Stephen: Mike James has taken advantage of Pitt's soft coverage on him by knocking down two of his three attempts from 3-point range. James has scored eight of Louisville's 12 points. The game is knotted at a dozen each with 13:54 to go in the first half. A couple of offensive rebounds have helped the Cardinals draw even with Pitt, who's shooting 71.4% from the floor.

Stephen: The days change but Pitt's starting lineup doesn't - Nelly Cummings, Greg Elliot, Jamarius Burton, Blake Hinson and Federiko Federiko will start for the Panthers. Meanwhile, El Ellis, Mike James, J.J. Traynor, Sydney Curry and Jae'Lyn Withers will start for the Cardinals.

Stephen: Burton is warming up as he has for the past 12 games. Looks like it'll be a 13th consecutive start for Burton, who's been able to play every game of the ACC slate so far while dealing with nagging knee inflammation.

Stephen: After Virginia Tech knocked off Virginia and Clemson fell to Miami over the weekend, the Panthers enter this week just a half game behind the Tigers for first place in the ACC (Pitt has an identical record as Virginia, but is second in the league by virtue of its head-to-head win over the Cavaliers).

They can seize shared possession of first place in the conference and all that stands in their way is 14th-place Louisville. Seeding for the rapidly-approaching ACC Tournament and a shot at a regular season league title are on the line in every game down the stretch.
