Pitt Has Best Odds to Go Unranked to Top 10
PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers did not crack the Preseason AP or Coaches Poll Top 25 this summer but they could find themselves climbing the rankings soon and in a big way.
In each of the last 30 seasons, at least one team has finished the season ranked in the top 10 after beginning the season unranked and Pitt has the best odds of anyone in the country to do just that, according to PennStakes.com.
PennStakes gives the Panthers have a 15.3% chance to rise from unranked to elite, followed by Illinois (13.3%), Kentucky (12.5%), Texas Tech (11.1%), Arkansas (10.5%) and the field (60%).
PennStakes likes the addition of Phil Jurkovec as the new starting quarterback and a schedule that builds in difficulty towards marquee late-season matchups with Florida State and Notre Dame, a pair of top-15 teams.
