PITTSBURGH -- Pitt Panthers quarterback Phil Jurkovec is a candidate for one of the most prestigious quarterback awards in college football.

Jurkovec was one of the handful of signal callers named to the preseason watchlist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given annually to the top senior or upperclassman quarterback set to graduate.

Former Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett was the winner of this award in 2021, when he returned to throw for 4,319 yards and 42 touchdowns while leading Pitt to an ACC title and am 11-2 record.

Prior to Pitt, Jurkovec made stops at Notre Dame and Boston College. In three seasons with the Eagles, Jurkovec completed 59% of his passes for 5,184 yards 35 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while for nine touchdowns as well.

Jurkovec was named the Panthers' starting quarterback back in spring practices and ever since, head coach Pat Narduzzi has not backed off the commitment to him as a starter.
