Report: Pitt Contacted Transferring Georgia Southern DB Anthony Wilson

The Pitt Panthers are looking to add another safety in the transfer portal.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers will seek to bolster their defensive backfield when the transfer portal reopens this weekend. They've already reached out to a young safety from a Group of 5 conference this week.

247Sports' Chris Hummer reported that Pitt had contacted Georgia Southern defensive back Anthony Wilson, who said he's also been contacted by UCF, Louisville, Tennessee, West Virginia, Purdue, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Duke, SMU and Tulane since entering the portal. He added that schools some other programs - such as Auburn, UCLA and Bowling Green - have reached out to his former coaches.

Wilson, who has two years of eligibility remaining plus a potential Covid year should he choose to use it, spent four years at Georgia Southern and earned All-Sun Belt Team honors in each of the past three seasons, appearing in 37 games and starting 36 of them. Wilson has totaled 241 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, 20 pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery over those three seasons.

A 5-foot-10, 200-pound safety, Wilson recorded 101 tackles - the third-most by a defensive back last year - 3.5 tackles for loss and an interception as a redshirt junior.

Wilson would become an instant contender for a starting job should he pick Pitt. Even with the Panthers loaded with safety depth, they could use his experience after losing a pair of three-year starters in Brandon Hill and Erick Hallett to the NFL.
