Former Pitt S Damar Hamlin Announces Return to NFL
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panther Damar Hamlin returned to the Buffalo Bills practice facility this week to begin preparations for his third season in the NFL - something that would have been unthinkable just a few months ago.
The former Pitt safety, Hamlin, learned last week that he had full recovered from the complications after he went into cardiac arrest during the Bills-Bengals game last week and this week, he announced that he intends to fulfill the goal he had set out for himself at the beginning of the recovery process and return to the NFL.
"This event was life-changing, but it's not the end of my story," Hamlin told reporters upon arriving in Buffalo for voluntary team conditioning. I'm here to announce that I plan on making a comeback to the NFL."
Hamlin revealed that he had suffered commotio cordis, which cause him to collapse on the field at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
"It was determined that I suffered commotio cordis, which is when a direct blow can cause a sudden arrhythmia and a few seconds later, you fall out," Hamlin said. "And that's what everyone saw with me. So it's been a journey, but I'm very thankful."
The odds were always daunting for Hamlin to return to the field but he never wavered in the belief that he would find his way back to professional football.
"I've been beating statistics my whole life," Hamlin said. "I like my chances here."
