PITTSBURGH -- The New York Jets demonstrated a special affinity for the Pitt Panthers on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft, when they took offensive tackle Carter Warren in the fourth round and running back Israel Abanikanda in the fifth round.

With rookie minicamp rapidly approaching those two former Panthers have chosen jersey numbers for their new team. Abanikanda will wear No. 25 with his college No. 2 taken by quarterback Zach Wilson. Meanwhile, Warren will wear No. 67. The number he wore at Pitt - 77 - has been claimed by veteran tackle Mekhi Becton.

Both Abanikanda and Warren are in line to compete for playing time right away when rookie minicamp opens in one week. The Jets have a running back room with depth of talent but questions about durability remain. The same goes in the offensive line room, which has the enormous task of keeping Aaron Rodgers clean this season.
