PITTSBURGH -- For at least one weekend, Pitt Panthers quarterback Kedon Slovis endeared himself to his new fanbase. Not only did he throw for 308 yards and a touchdown in a 2022 win over West Virginia, but at a pep rally prior to the game, Slovis embraced the rivalry by delivering a colorful shot at the Mountaineers.

"F*** West Virginia!" Slovis shouted as he limited on a podium in front of the Cathedral of Learning in front of Pitt's campus, with thousands of students gathered in front of him.

But Slovis, who played the 2022 campaign at Pitt, then transferred to BYU for one more year and has since declared for the NFL Draft, said he now regrets that comment from before the Backyard Brawl.

“I tell people now, if I regret one thing from my college career, it’s probably that,” Slovis told Pittsburgh Sports Now's Nick Farabaugh at the Shrine Bowl in Frisco, Texas this week. “Not really my personality, kind of got peer pressured to do it. I remember one of our coaches being like, ‘Hey, you didn’t hear it from me. You should say that.’ And all the captains being like, ‘We’re going to be in trouble if we say it, but you should say it.’"

Slovis said since he's left Pitt, he's taken his fair share of heat for his comments but doesn't have any more hard feelings for the Mountaineers, even after playing them in the Big XII this past season with the Cougars.

“And again, they don’t like each other. West Virginia says ‘Eat S*** Pitt,’ so it is funny," Slovis said to Farabaugh. "I was talking to one of the [West Virginia] guys about it, and I was like, ‘Man, your fans don’t like me very much,’ because we went back this year. And he was like, ‘Well yeah, dude, obviously.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s fair, I deserve it.’ No hate now, I’m not in Pittsburgh anymore.”

Slovis, brought in as a transfer from USC to replace Kenny Pickett, completed 58% of his passes for 2,397 yards, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 11 games during his one season as a Panther before bolting for BYU.
