PITTSBURGH -- The first Pitt Panthers scholarship player from the 2023 roster to enter the transfer portal has made his decision public this week.

Reserve linebacker Brandon George announced on Twitter that he will leave Pitt this offseason and use his final season of eligibility at another school.

George, who joined the Panthers for the 2019 season as a true freshman, played in 52 games over his five seasons in blue and gold, accounting for 117 total tackles, 11 for loss, two sacks, an interception, and three passes defended.

This past season was his best to date. Coming off a 2022 season in which he was limited to four games because of an injury, he set career-highs in tackles, sacks, and interceptions.

The Panthers have a healthy group of young linebackers waiting behind George and Shayne Simon, who has exhausted his college eligibility. Starters Solomon DeShields and Bangally Kamara are eligible to return to Pitt and Kyle Louis, Braylan Lovelace and Jordan Bass, who all took some reserve snaps as freshmen, are expected to return as well.
