Former Pitt QB Takes Second Interview With Saints

The New Orleans Saints are keenly interested in adding a former Pitt Panthers quarterback to their coaching staff.

PITTSBURGH -- The New Orleans Saints appear keenly interested in adding a former Pitt Panthers quarterback to their coaching staff this offseason.

Former Pitt quarterback Luke Getsy, also the former offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, is back in New Orleans for a second interview with the Saints, who are looking for a new coach to fill their offensive coordinator position. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported that Getsy would be in town for a second interview with the Saints.

Getsy has been linked to open offensive coordinating positions with the Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots in addition to the Saints.

The Bears fired Getsy alongside quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko and receivers coach Tyke Tolbert, running backs coach Omar Young and assistant tight ends coach Tim Zetts earlier this month. Chicago ranked 23rd and 18th in points and 28th and 20th in yards per game in each of the two seasons with Getsy coordinating the offense.

Getsy, a Munhall, Pennsylvania native and Steel Valley High School alumnus, began his college career at Pitt, earning a scholarship to play quarterback coming out of high school in 2003. He then transferred to Akron after two years with the Panthers and led the Zips to its first conference championship and bowl game appearance in program history while breaking 24 school records in the process.

Getsy was a graduate assistant for the Panthers during the 2010 season and made other stops at Akron, West Virginia Wesleyan, IUPUI, Western Michigan and Mississippi State during his college coaching career. In the NFL, he's coached for the Green Bay Packers in addition to the Bears.
